In his first Christmas remarks to thousands gathered in St Peter’s Square, Pope Leo has made a heartfelt appeal for peace around the world. The pontiff delivered his message from Vatican City during the highly anticipated Urbi et Orbi address, held annually on Christmas Day.
Since being elected on 8 May, this was Pope Leo‘s first time delivering the celebrated Urbi et Orbi speech. This address, also known as “to the city and the world”, traditionally focuses on the most pressing issues facing humanity.
During his speech, Pope Leo appealed for the world to seek, “justice, peace and stability for Lebanon, Palestine, Israel, and Syria.” The Pope specifically addressed ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, as well as unrest in Thailand and Cambodia.
“From God, let us ask for justice, peace and stability for Lebanon, Palestine, Israel, Syria,” the Pope proclaimed, highlighting his wish for healing and reconciliation in these troubled regions.
The Pope’s message echoed the Vatican’s ongoing commitment to advocating for peace and humanitarian support in areas afflicted by conflict. His remarks were welcomed by many international media outlets and emphasized the Catholic Church’s global role in promoting dialogue and understanding.
